FAQs
Indeed, the aforementioned whiteboard duster is made to function well on all common whiteboard surfaces. This includes the more expensive porcelain/enamel whiteboards, glass dry-erase boards, and the more popular melamine boards. Dryerase ink markings are easily removed from these surfaces by the duster's felt erasing surface. It cleans them without causing any scratches. Therefore, this duster should effectively remove the ink markings from any kind of whiteboard.
The duster can be used on smooth surfaces like glass – for example, if you’re using dry-erase markers on a glass board or window, it will erase those just as it does on a whiteboard. It’s essentially a piece of felt, so any non-porous surface with dry-erase marker is fine. However, it’s not really meant for traditional chalkboards (the green or black boards used with chalk). Chalkboards require a different type of eraser (usually a softer felt specifically for chalk dust). If you try this duster on a chalkboard, it will partially work (it will brush away chalk), but it may not be as effective in capturing all the chalk dust, and you’ll likely get chalk residue on the duster. In summary: great for whiteboard and glass; chalkboard in a pinch, but not ideal.
No, the purpose of the duster is to completely clean without leaving any residue behind. It removes dust and dry-erase ink particles when you erase with it, leaving a clean surface behind. Any duster will, of course, eventually become saturated with ink dust and begin to leave some faint streaks after prolonged use; at that point, you would shake it out or replace/clean it. However, a fresh or clean duster will get rid of markings without leaving any film or residue behind. If the board is in good shape, you won't get smear marks because it only uses a dry wipe and doesn't use any chemicals.
Your particular model will determine this. We provide a few variations. One of our whiteboard dusters has an internal magnetic strip that enables it to adhere to magnetic whiteboards, allowing you to store it on the board for easy access. A simple, lightweight duster without a magnet is an alternative. Make sure to select the magnetic model if you want it to adhere to the board. As an added bonus, some of our dusters come with a built-in marker holder (some models hold one marker, while others hold two); these also usually have a magnetic backing. In conclusion, not all products have the ability to attach magnetically; for information on yours, see the product description.
There is only one useful size available for the standard duster, which is about 5 inches long and 2 inches wide, and fits comfortably in an adult hand. We do have a few variations, though. The most basic is typically one colour (for instance, a plastic handle that is either black or blue with a felt bottom that is either white or grey). It's possible that the versions with marker holders are coloured differently, usually in black or grey. Since it's more of a practical item than a fashion statement, there aren't many colour variations beyond that. The primary difference in size is actually in how each duster works: one has slots for one marker, one has slots for two, and one has no marker holder. The top plastic portion is moulded differently, but otherwise they are all about the same size overall. Although there is usually only one colour option per model, you can choose a duster that best suits your needs (plain vs. holding markers, magnetic vs. non-magnetic).
A lot of dried ink particles will eventually build up on the duster's felt, particularly if you use the board frequently. There are several ways to clean the duster: Dry Clean: Just clap or tap the duster against your hand while it's outside or over a trash can. A significant portion of the ink dust that has been trapped in it will be removed by doing this. Some of the chalky ink residue will show through. Vacuum: To remove the dust from the felt, use an attachment for your vacuum. Simply move it over the surface several times. This is clean and functions well. Wash (if applicable): You can use mild soap and water to clean the detachable felt pads found on some dusters. If that's the kind of duster you have, you can hand wash the felt in cool soapy water, rinse it well, and then let it air dry completely before reattaching and using it. (A damp duster will smear marker ink, so make sure it's completely dry.) For dusters without detachable pads, you should usually vacuum or dry clean instead of soaking the entire thing because the glue or internal components may not like it. Cleaning the duster on a regular basis will extend its lifespan and maintain optimal erasing performance, preventing you from simply spreading old ink.
